Granular or lump sulphur — which should I buy?
Granular for anything handled by conveyor or bulk system: it flows, dusts less and loses less in transfer. Lump is cheaper per tonne and acceptable where the material is remelted on arrival anyway. The saving on lump is often lost again in handling, so compare delivered cost rather than FOB price.
What purity is normal for export sulphur?
99.8% minimum is the standard commercial specification, with moisture and ash controlled to low limits. Recovered sulphur from gas processing is bright yellow and consistently high purity, which is what makes it acceptable for acid manufacture without further refining.
Is sulphur classed as dangerous goods?
Solid sulphur in bulk is not usually shipped as dangerous goods, but it is combustible and dust-explosive, so holds must be clean and dry and transfer equipment earthed. Full documentation and handling guidance ship with every cargo.
