What is the difference between bitumen 60/70 and 85/100?
The numbers are the penetration range in tenths of a millimetre, measured to ASTM D5. A lower number means a harder, less temperature-sensitive binder: 60/70 is the standard road grade for hot climates, while 85/100 is softer and preferred where service temperatures are lower.
How is bitumen packed for export?
In new steel drums of about 180 kg, in jumbo bags, or in bulk by heated bitutainer or vessel. Drums are the usual choice where the destination has no heated storage; bulk is materially cheaper per tonne but requires receiving facilities.
What documents ship with a bitumen cargo?
An independent inspection certificate covering penetration, softening point, ductility and solubility, together with the certificate of origin, packing list and bill of lading. Inspection by a third-party surveyor at load port can be arranged on request.
