Ferrosilicon

“Ferrosilicon is an alloy of iron and silicon, typically containing between 15% and 90% silicon by weight. It is produced by the reduction of silica or sand with coke in the presence of iron. This alloy is a critical additive in the steelmaking process, where it serves multiple purposes, such as deoxidizing molten steel and adding silicon to improve the strength, elasticity, and magnetism of the final product. Additionally, ferrosilicon is used in the production of cast iron, as it enhances the overall hardness and quality of the castings. Its applications extend to the manufacturing of silicon, ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, and in certain chemical processes.”
